One Trip And Multi Trip Travel Insurance

Traveling can be fun especially for holiday or business. It can be expensive and worrisome too, as well as somewhat risky.. but with effective insurance the hassles will be taken care of and you would be able to have a vacation or business travel with peace of mind. The two types of travel insurance policy offered by most insurers are one or single trip insurance and multi trip travel insurance.

One Or Single Trip Travel

This type of travel insurance covers you when you leave your home to some other destination(s) and back to your home within a short period of time.  It could be that you would be traveling to different countries on a single trip. For example, you may want to spend 2 days in Spain, 4 days in France, 3 days in Belgium and finally 17 days in the United States of America before returning home. This will still be regarded as one trip because you will be leaving home and your final destination is your home and only once for a short period. When you are filling up your form during your travel insurance application, it will be important to state the country where you intend to spend the most number of days. Once you are home, your policy should have expired. If you are considering a longer travel period which would require you traveling multiple times (two or three times within a year) to different destinations, then consider multi travel insurance policy.

Multi trip

Multi trip policy covers the insured person for a period of one year when you leave and return to your home while traveling three or more times within a period of one year from the date of purchasing your policy. This type of policy is valuable to frequent travelers. There is a limit to the number of days you can spend in each of the trips for the one year period. Most insurers give a maximum of 30 to 75 days for each trip which means that your policy will be invalid if you do not return home by the end of the stated number of days in your policy. Though, the number of days varies with insurer. To be eligible for a multi trip policy, it is required that you have a health insurance policy because most multi trip travel insurance only covers medical emergency and emergency medical evacuation but will not pay for private medical treatment. If you have a pre-existing medical condition, it will be pertinent to declare that you have a pre-existing medical case before applying for multi-trip policy in order to get more advise from your insurer on what they offer based on the medical case.

Some Do’s and Don’ts of travel insurance

Whether you are going for a one trip or multi trip travel insurance policy, there are activities you may want to engage in that your insurer will decline to cover in case any injury results from those activities. Activities like skiing, diving, surfing, water sports and other dangerous sports are solely at the insured person’s risk. Checked-in baggage loss, delayed or cancellation of trip, money you carry along with you during the holiday or trip, personal valuables and liabilities, emergency medical cover (injury during the trip), repatriation cost are covered by most companies.
